The Ontario Youth Bouldering Championships were held this past weekend at Boulderz Etobicoke, and it was an amazing event. 140 strong climbers battled for the title in 10 categories, and the competition was close in most of them. Full results are posted at https://my.climbontario.ca/dates.php?id=29. The updated OCF Youth Series standings will be posted soon at https://archive.climbontario.ca/ocf-points-standings/.
The OCF would like to thank the dozens of volunteers who worked hard all weekend, including judging, supervising climbers in the Isolation Zone, running them from problem to problem, scoring, and setting up and operating the video review system. As our sport continues to grow (and it is growing fast!), we need more involvement like this from our community. If you have not previously volunteered to help out at a comp, please consider doing so at the next opportunity!
And the OCF is especially grateful to Boulderz Climbing Centre for providing an outstanding venue for this event, as well as fabulous routesetting (Andrew McBurney and Tony Berlier) and terrific overall support (Andrew, Sylvia and all the Boulderz staff). This was a first-class event that ran very smoothly, and the partnership between the OCF and Boulderz was the key to that.
The top climbers in each category have been invited to represent Ontario at the first-ever Canadian Youth Bouldering Championships at Climber’s Rock on February 14-16. Details of that event (including how to volunteer!) will be available at http://you.bould.ca/.
