About Competitive Sport Climbing

There are 3 disciplines of sport climbing:

  • Bouldering
  • Difficulty (Lead Climbing for Youth B and older, Top Rope for Youth C and younger)
  • Speed

In Canada there are 4 levels of competition for each discipline:

  • Local Competitions: Many local competitions are held across the country each year, mainly attracting climbers from nearby. In Ontario, local comps are sanctioned by the OCF, and results are used to qualify athletes to Provincials.
  • Provincial Championships: the OCF organizes Provincial competitions for Bouldering, Difficulty and Speed
  • Regional Championships: CEC sanctioned competitions for Eastern and Western Canada
  • National Championships: the final competition each season for the best climbers across the country
