Different Format at Jan 18th Bouldering Local

Information about the OCF Bouldering Local

on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at True North Climbing Inc.

The last OCF Youth Bouldering Local competition of the 2013/14 season will be held at True North Climbing on Saturday, January 18, 2014. We are adopting a different format for this competition in order to help prepare competitors for higher levels of competition, including our own Provincial Youth Bouldering Championships. Please review the details below carefully, as registration requirements and the event timing will be substantially different from our other bouldering local competition.

The format of this competition will be the same as a World Cup Qualifying round, which means:

  • Competitors will climb 5 predetermined problems, in a predetermined order.
  • Competitors will stay in an Isolation Zone (Iso) prior to climbing, and will not see each problem until their turn to climb it. Competitors should expect to spend between one and two hours in Iso. While in Iso, there can be no communication with anyone outside of Iso, and no electronic devices are permitted in the Isolation Zone.
  • Competitors are allowed 5 minutes climbing time per problem, and then get 5 minutes rest before their next problem. Competitors must rest in a designated area (or chair), and may not communicate with anyone other than Officials from the time they start their first problem until they complete their last problem.

Registration for the competition will open on Monday, November 25, 2013 and will close on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 10:00 p.m. No registrations will be accepted after this deadline. No competitors will be allowed to register on the day of the competition, or compete without having registered by the deadline.

The advance registration deadline is necessary in order to confirm how many competitors are in each category before route setting begins. This allows us to optimally arrange the order of climbers and distribution of problems through the gym to minimize both route setter work and wait time for climbers and their families throughout the day.

We will publish a detailed schedule and running order on Thursday, January 16, 2014. The competition is expected to run from about 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Competitors in different categories will report to the Isolation Zone at different times.
