We’ve had a tremendous response for our first competition of the 2019/2020 season. At over 250 athletes, this will be the OCF’s largest competition ever.
This is very exciting for competitive climbing in Ontario, but it will mean long days (particularly on Saturday). Come prepared and enjoy the party!
The provisional schedule and running orders are now available (see bottom of this post).
IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT THE SCHEDULE AND RUNNING ORDERS:
- All athletes must be must be checked into ISO by 8:30am on their competition day.
- On Saturday only, we have reduced the gap between end of qualifiers and close of finals’ ISO from 2 hours (section 11.10e of our rules) to 1.5 hours. The JP and Event Organizer have made this change in order to keep the length of the day more manageable.
- The time listed on the running orders is the “on-deck” time.
NEW, OPTIONAL PRE- CHECK-IN
We will offer an optional pre-check-in on Friday October 4th from 7-9pm at Gravity Niagara (enter through the main entrance). Athletes and coaches who are in St. Catharines on Friday evening can register and pick up their athlete bibs/ coach badges. Upon arriving for qualifiers, these participants will use a “fast-track” line to enter ISO.
ISOLATION ZONE
Isolation will be very long for some athletes (up to 8 hours)! Please come prepared!! Athletes and coaches should bring sufficient food (snacks and a meal if you are later in the running order), warm clothes, non-electronic entertainment (books, cards, board games, homework?!), maybe even a pillow or a blanket.
There will be plenty of water available for refill of water bottles throughout the day. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own water bottle.
ISO will be divided into two sections. There will be one large area for relaxing and hanging out. There will be a second warmup area dedicated for athletes actively warming up for the competition. There will be “House Rules” in place requiring competitors to use the warmup area only if they are truly warming up.
JUDGES AND VOLUNTEERS
We cannot run the competition without the generous support of our volunteer judges. We are still in need of judges, particularly for Saturday’s qualifier round as well as all shifts on Sunday.
Please consider helping out! Signup can be found at https://signup.com/group/1046782930072.
